Brief History

The Corriedale was developed around 1874 to meet the demand for a dual purpose animal with good meat characteristics and producing good commercial wool.

Its origins stem from selective breeding from crossbred progeny of pure Merino and Lincoln sheep. After more than 125 years of line breeding behind it, the Corriedale is sufficiently fixed so that hybrid vigour will result when it is crossed with any other recognised pure breed.

Performance Corriedales were established from a meeting of  members at Sheepvention in 2006, to increase the viability of the Corriedale breed and to utilise all available genetic information from LAMBPLAN. From this meeting a Trans Tasman Analysis was initiated, which was the first TT Analysis of all breeds. This was run by LAMBPLAN and SIL.

A Sires program has been established to improve the accuracies of the ASBVs of the member flocks.
